Ka'u coffee: growing up
On the southermost district of Hawaii sits the sleepy and quaint Ka'u district. Despite it's slight 5000 person population, this district of farmers has made an incredible transition between sugar plantation employees to celebrated coffee producers.
Over the past 5 years, Ka'u coffee producers have placed first in statewide Hawaii cupping competitions. In 2012, three Ka'u coffee farms were placed among the top 10 in an international competition for the SCAA's Coffee of the Year Competition.
About Morning Glory Coffee
Our Morning Glory Ka'u coffee comes from Pear Tree Coffee Park within Ka'u. The producer, a former sugar cane farmer named Gascon, and his mother live together on Kaoli, which is Hawaiian for Morning Glory.
Although Gascon farms 20 acres of coffee, much of it is purchased by Starbucks for their Ka'u Reserve. We are very excited to be roasting this for you.
Our lighter roast highlights the carmel and fruit, while the dark roast brings out the fattier, coconut and brazil nut elements. Unlike the delicate and floral Kona coffees, Ka'u coffee tends to be robust and unrestrained. It pairs nicely with creamer or steamed milk.
